"I believe repairing our relationship with our own sense of Self is at the heart of therapy. Strengthening this relationship through compassion and understanding will help us better relate to others and the world around us."

Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

I have been working in the mental health field for over a decade. I hold a BA degree in Psychology from UCD, a BSc. Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from PCI College, and a MA degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from ICHAS. I am a fully accredited member of the IACP (Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

I endeavour to create a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients, and a space where clients feel safe to speak completely freely and without judgement. I favour a Humanistic approach, stemming from Person-Centred Therapy where the client is treated with empathy and encouraged to practice self-compassion.

I believe that integrating different therapeutic approaches can be valuable in counselling, depending on each client’s individual needs. For instance, sometimes it can be effective to incorporate elements of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) alongside the Humanistic Approach. The aim is to find an approach that best suits each client, and that offers the most effective support.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Before completing my training, I worked as a mental health support worker in the care sector. I offered support to people with dementia and schizophrenia in a residential setting; and this experience provided the opportunity to work on the frontline with vulnerable adults and their families. I also volunteered on helplines, which allowed me the chance to support people in crisis and develop the skills to help people over the phone and online. For almost 9 years, in addition to private therapeutic practice, I worked as a counsellor with a global EAP (Employee Assistance Programme). As an EAP Counsellor, I was able to offer Solution-Focused Counselling with clients on a short-term basis; and I worked with clients from different countries around the world.

During my studies, I completed my dissertations in relation body image and eating disorders, along with the role of shame and the growth of social media in present society. I have worked with adults on a one-to-one basis, both in the short-term and in ongoing therapy. Often, clients seek support when they are going through pivotal changes in their lives, and I aim to empower them through any challenges they may face. I have experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement/loss, work-related issues, stress, relationship and family issues; in addition to more in-depth exploration of the person’s sense of Self.
